Summary0000417: Exif support when host doesn't support (via PJMT)
DescriptionHi,
(en francais après)

I use PWG 1.5 (which is very good !!) on a free web hoster which doesn't support exif data. No free web hoster support it in France, and my hoster doesn't want to change this.
But I found PJMT : PHP Metadata Toolkit http://www.ozhiker.com/electronics/pjmt/ [^] And I managed to integrate it in PWG 1.5 (but only for my camera). Since I am a newbie in PHP (never edited it before), I surely did many mistakes. You can visit my gallery here http://membres.lycos.fr/bestbest/galerie/ [^] and try my integration.

Can you integrate it in PWG (not 1.6 but maybe 1.7), in a better, optimized way ?

Merci

How complex is your PHP code using PJMT compared to PhpWebGallery code using standard metdata library?

My code is surely more complex than PWG using standard library, but it can give more information (or I forgot smthg) :
I can have ,with my code, the focal distance, ISO, speed, aperture, ... informations that are not read by PWG (with the standard library, it can only give the size, date of the photo, can't it ?)
I repeat that my web server hasn't enabled exif support in php, and I tried to read exif informations ...

Sorry for my English

You can choose the metadata to read in the configuration file. Everything available in the EXIF metadata set is readable by PWG.

The problem is that standard EXIF library is not enabled everywhere while you can install PJMT everywhere. My concern is the complexity of the resulting code.

Yes that's the problem

> My concern is the complexity of the resulting code.
The resulting code may be complex, but no so hard to implement in the existing code. And I think it's better to have a slow code than no code for this feature.
You can test on my gallery, it's not so slow ..

And I think this option as the last solution to read exif metadata (option not enabled by default, big warning when you enable it 'BE careful, this may slow your server')

I just test how it's fast, and furthermore it's hosted by Multimania, which is not the best for rapidity ....

Actually, I don't know what you mean Pierrick
> My concern is the complexity of the resulting code.
Complexity is :
* size of code ? (yes, it's a problem, that's why I think it as an extension)
* speed of code ? (metadata aren't read too often ..)
* difficulty for the programmer ? (I think it's quite easy, but I don't know. Else I would have made it !)
