| Summary | 0000069: Create a concept of meta-category using logical combinations of categories | |||||||||||
| Description |
Your product is among the few which allows a photo to be bound to more than one category, and this is what appealed to me. With this feature, you make a step away from the physical layout of files in the hyerarchy of folders, and towards a more abstract organisation. The next step would be to build queries based on categories, kewords and dates to build custom albums on the fly. The admin should be able to save those queries, which would then behave like new categories, to the end user, as well as to build new queries based on them ! |

The idea is very interesting and we've recently debate around this theme on the french forum : http://forum.phpwebgallery.net/viewtopic.php?id=3356 [^] I don't think that creating virtual categories based on a stored query would be the best solution. It's interesting but really complicated for low skilled user. Why not create a MOD for this ? (if my proposition doesn't fit your needs). I consider that the initial problem is the lack of simplicity for associating in mass pictures with a category. I propose to solve this problem by creating a virtual caddie containing chosen pictures from anywhere in the gallery. This caddie would be manage in the administration, for example "associate all pictures to a category". Adding pictures to the caddie would be possible on two ways : - on picture.php, one by one (not fast) - on category.php, all the pictures of a category. This is powerful because category.php can display search results for example. A search tool has been significantly improved in branch 1.4 I'm going to start coding this feature and it should be available in a development build very soon. I hope you'll test it and give me your opinion. |

After reconsidering your feature request, what you ask is the feature "stored searches". This feature is "roadmaped" for branch 1.6. The specification is available in french : http://phpwebgallery.net/doc/doku.php?id=fr:specifications:branche_1.5:moteur_de_recherche [^] (section "Réutilisation des recherches") |

Sorry but this feature was not implemented soon enough for branch 1.6. Will be among my priority of branch 1.7. |

http://piwigo.org/demo/index.php?/search/900 [^] meta-categories limitations: 1 - Syntax to check (code evolution). 2 - Are they matching access rights? Not as they were, but as they are (not the same user or rights could have changed). 3 - Are they matching confidentiality level? Again, as they are at the reuse time. 4 - What about recent selectable pictures? A 6 months can return pictures #: 111, 112 and 118 and today #: 112, 118 and 123 (111 has been removed, and 123 added). 111 is not a problem but 123 must be selected. |
