i am using the default settings, i.e. .aac is associated with  quicktime. i tried with with other player but still getting the same error

i could not find much, except three options
1. associate it with quicktime and tell users to download quick time (if not yet done0
2. since quicktime file size is little big, install quicktime alternative plugin (10mb)
3. hack into wmp to play .aac files

I really don't know. I don't use WMp for webpages (because Linux users won't be able to see the result).
I don't use aac files as well.

My advice would be "Google", Google is your friend.

Charlies player template-mimetype association

unselect aac from charlie_quicktime.tpl
select aac in charlie_wmplayer.tpl

Right, I forgot to exclude all sound extensions from getid3 scan.

Activate LocalFiles Editor plugin:
In the first tab, add:

$conf['Charlies getid exclude'] = array('aac');
