I just can't believe Yahoo still uses PHP4/MySQL4. Isn't it possible to switch to PHP5 with a simple parameter in a .htaccess file?

Yahoo has NO support at all for PHP5 or MySQL5, not even as an option. Other discussion forums have posts from other yahoo customers, where they regurgitated the response from yahoo, (paraphrasing) "version 4 works fine for the vast majority of our customers, and we have no plans to upgrade."

After two days (well beyond the "we'll respond in less than 24 hours" window), my email to yahoo remains unanswered. I guess it's time to migrate to a new hosting provider.

PHP5 is already a strong a requirement. Many pieces of code rely on this minimum version. And this is going to be more and more the case in the future.

MySQL 4.1 may also work most the time, but now that we have written MySQL5 as requirement, it gives Piwigo development team the permission to use MySQL5 features without worrying about breaking compatibility with MySQL 4.1.

I don't think you can make it work without the 5 versions for both.

The system requirements ask for version 5 of both PHP and MySQL. My hosting provider (yahoo) is still stuck on version 4 of both services.

If I try to install Piwigo on my server, how badly will it break? Do I only need to comment out a few lines of code, or to do without a certain feature, or to rewrite a small block of code, or is there a v5 feature that's integral to the program?

Thanks in advance.
