I have now managed to upload my photos (well, a small sample) and got on with playing with piwigo.
It seems that •PHP: 5.2.9 in Safe Mode with •mysql: 5.0.77 is somewhat primitive and casued me 3 days of aggro.

Does anyone use piwigo with PHP in Safe Mode?

Having changed all the directory attributes / file permissions to 777 I ran install.php and got a blank screen again!

I then copied all the files back to my PC, reset the read-only attribute and recopied via filezilla.

The mySQL stage then worked and I can access Piwigo!

However, although I can create an album, I cannot upload photos.
With the browser method, I get this error:
[prepare_directory] cannot create directory "././upload/2012/05/04"

It seems that I still have attribute / permission problems.  Help SVP!
I think I'll sleep on that.

It seems I have a file permissions / access problem.
Each time a new directory is created the process stops with HTTP 500 until I change the permissions, then it happens with the next directory.
Back to the drawing board...

I have started again with piwigo-netinstaller and after the first screen it stops with error HTTP 500.

It has put pwg_files.php, pwg_unzip.php and piwigo-install.zip in my root directory.

Copy of my reply by email (but it's better to use the forum):

Hi,

2.4.0RC3 is not OK. It is a "test only" version. Use 2.3.4 instead.

The blank screen makes me think about a PHP 5 issue. I need to see the error log to be sure.

Bye

Thanks for your reply.  I have asked my ISP Eclipse to add the mySQL database.
How do I restart the process?  Do I go to .xxx.com/piwigo or .xxx.com/piwigo/install.php or some other .php?

Hi Tadjio,

I confirm you need MySQL. Your MySQL database doesn't need a specific name.

I am completely new to Piwigo but looking forward to using it and migrating from fotopic and Pikfu.
Today I have put the Piwigo installation files on my Eclipse ISP server using ftp and was able to launch install.php in Internet Explorer.
I had one early problem changing the Permissions and Owner/Group for _data but fixed this.
It wrote several files onto my server but then stopped with a blank screen in Internet Explorer.
Is this because I need mySQL implemented on my domain?
Does the mySQL Database have any special name?

Thanks

Tadjio
