I've done a little research and possibly should do this:

CNAME record piwigo.mydomain.com pointing to virtual.mydomain.com
and
RENAME piwigo directory as piwigo.virtual (but I'm not sure if this is necessary)

What is the name fo your piwigo directory SVP?

I've have no idea :(
My host provides a very friendly interface for managing sub-domains which doesn't ask any technical knowledge

I will do but it is a Bank Holiday tomorrow, Monday, so I can't until Tuesday.
I thought I could do it with a CNAME DSN record but I can't put "www.example.com/piwigo" in as a target for my hosting.

Can you tell me the principle of how such mapping is done please?

How do I map a subdomain to my "/piwigo" directory?

eg photos.example.com to www.examples.com/piwigo
