I had the same issue as described above. When changing the path of piwigo, I would get only DB errors.
Solution was to change the path, manually open the admin page, deactivate and reactivate each theme.

I gues the new version 2.7 is directory bound.
Everything went error when changing the url
cant login or anythjing else
Url and directories are two different things.
Could you open a new thread explaining what you did Thx

Just moved my gallery from my test instance to production and also ran into some path and URL issues.
Resolution was to remove all files under $[Piwigo_root]/_data/templates_c/ where $[Piwigo_root] is the place you installed Piwigo at.
Now I can see that those files get created again as Piwigo is being used so they seem to be more temporary and related to the installation location and URL.
So, this actually happened to me as well. But, the fix was super easy. As mentioned, Piwigo really doesn't care about where it is located. However, when the temporary templates are built upon visit, they do house some information regarding the URL in which certain things are located (such as the path to smarty...). I was able to easily fix this by deleting all of the temporary templates in the ${PIWIGO_ROOT}/_data/templates_c directory (be sure not to delete the index.htm file!). After that, everything worked fine. Perhaps this is what is happening with you also? Just a thought.
Thank you Marcus and Jay!!! That solution worked for me too.
All I wanted to do was rename the piwigo folder to photogallery (to save me from changing a bunch of links that had pointed to my old gallery installation (which has now also successfully been renamed).
When I first tried it I got these errors and an indication that there was more wrong than that:
Warning: include(/home/ladewitt/natomabaycve62.org/piwigo/include/smarty/libs/plugins/modifier.replace.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/ladewitt/natomabaycve62.org/photogallery/_data/templates_c/ljbwkp^1d85c23a4711c45222e4c9b3e0f490900e886dc1.file.mainpage_categories.tpl.php on line 33
Warning: include(): Failed opening '/home/ladewitt/natomabaycve62.org/piwigo/include/smarty/libs/plugins/modifier.replace.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/local/lib/php:/usr/local/php5/lib/pear') in /home/ladewitt/natomabaycve62.org/photogallery/_data/templates_c/ljbwkp^1d85c23a4711c45222e4c9b3e0f490900e886dc1.file.mainpage_categories.tpl.php on line 33
Deleting those extra files in the _data/templates_c folder (but leaving index.htm) seemed to do the trick.
Thanks again.

Hi,
the thread is rather old, but the problem remains, when I move my piwigo installation up one level, I get lots of error messages and adminstration is no longer possible.
sorry to object to that statement.
Holger
