Can you:

1) go to [Administration > Configuration > Options > Photo sizes]
2) click on "show details" in the top right corner of the "Multiple size" box
3) click on the "Reset to default values" link

Give another try in the gallery.

Yes, it's working when you add
$conf['graphics_library'] = 'gd';
to your local config file.

GD works and is more stable than ImageMagick, but produces slightly inferior quality.
