Hi,
A photographer (a friend of mine) want's to publish the shots he took for his clients. I found Piwigo has many features and maybe it can be adapted to work as a CMS (customer management system).
Some doubts are:
- Is it possible to create independent and exclusive albums for each user/client?
- And to replace user/pass with a digested URL to simplify web access? (Permalinks mabye?)
I also thought "favorites" can be used to indicate which shots the customer wants to get a printed copy of, and "votes" can be used to indicate how many of them (1 to 5)
TIA for your ideas and thoughts,
--
Seb

Yes you can do that. I do it for the models I work with. But keep in mind even though you password protect the album, it is not 100% secure. The photos can still be accessed through a direct URL.
I also put that album in a robots. txt file excluding search engines from indexing the photos.
Basically you just make the album private and give it a password in Piwigo's configuration. Create a new user with access to that album. I also use a plugin to password protect the album. It's a bit irritating because it then makes it a double password system.
Someone else may know a simpler solution than I use.

traditionally CMS = Content Management System...
for NWS workflow you'll need [extension by unclvito] Protected Albums, password protected albums is not a core feature
I suggest you [extension by mistic100] User Collections instead of favorites, it's more flexible
for "URL logins" you can also use [extension by LucMorizur] Event Cats but it's not compatible with User Collections (neither favorites actually)

@NWS : why protecting the albums with a password ?
you just have to make the album private but only visible by your user

Thanks mistic100. Sounds like a better solution.

beware : this plugin is not very effective You can read the thread [Forum, post 134908 by plg in topic 18751] [Plugin] Protected Albums

Is passwording a folder at the hosts end a better alternative? Or would photos still be accessible through a direct URL?

this is not a solution, protect which folders with a password ? anyway it will break Piwigo as the software will not be able to reach files

Thanks. I thought something like that might happen.

Thank you for your ideas. I think we'll start giving customers a user and password to access their albums/catalogs before we try other alternatives.
