Hello/Hi/Greetings,
(Here your message)
Piwigo version: 2.82
PHP version: 1:7.0+49
MySQL version: 5.6.30-1
Piwigo URL: http://localhost
I installed piwigo, and the folder galleries is symlinked to another HDD. Through an unfortunate user error, my HDD was wiped and lost the galleries folder where the photos are. However, piwigo is still working and photos are still there. The purpose of using the symlink to another HDD is to minimize the storage on the /var. Since the link is broken, and I can still access piwigo and view the photos, where are the photos stored in /var?

Hello
if you installed piwigo as an OS package, you have to contact the maintainer of that package

I installed it myself. I am using debian 4.8.0.1. I am just a user of linux, not much of an expert, so cannot find out where the photos stored.

So it's the same as other Piwigo installs:
locate your Piwigo then
./_data/i/ for resized pics
./galleries/ for ftp upload
./upload/ for web upload

If your 'galleries' folder was symlinked, and it's gone now, so are the photos. Some may be cached, and some may be resizes (./_data/i/ for resized pics) which could account for why you are still 'seeing them'.
As flop25 says:
./_data/i/ for resized pics
./galleries/ for ftp upload
./upload/ for web upload

Thanks. Found it. The photos are there. Once I re-establish the symlink, is it safe to delete this cache?
