Piwigo under the hood

I dump all my photos and videos into a directory structure by year and month:
/Media/Photos/YYYY/MM
/Media/Videos/YYYY/MM

Once Piwigo is installed, can I just point Piwigo to the /Media directory and it'll use the original files and not make its own copy?  Will it leave the original files untouched? Can I tell it to periodically refresh, either manually or with cron?

Thanks for your time.

Search is your friend. Plenty of topics about it if you search "symlink", "cron", "Synchronization", or "automation" etc ...

Re: Piwigo under the hood

Basically you'll want to create a symlink to your Media folder under /usr/local/piwigo/galleries. Then when you use the FTP synchronization (under Tools > Synchronize) it will add all of the folders there as albums and all the photos as well (this will probably take a while the first time).
