is 36MPixel too much for a raspberry pi 3B+?

Hello/Hi/Greetings,

I've just setup piwigo yesterday night and seems it works for photos from my phone, but when I tried to load some big 36MP DSLR JPGs to it, it took forever to load, and the whole raspberry was not responding.
before it stop responds totally, I saw there was multiple converting jobs and it was taking around 600MB of ram from htop command. CPU usage was low like 5%. I suspect the USB bus is the limit. (I am using a USB hard drive, and raspberry's ethernet is also on USB)

I reset the raspberry today morning and seems not all photos are ready. clicking on the photos take ages to load. seems it is OK when I click the photos one by one and let it finish the down sizing.

is it possible to config Piwigo to do the down sizing one by one when I batch uploaded the photos using web admin?

and is there anyone using a similar setup and can tell me that if raspberry is capable of handling such a task?

Thanks.
