how can i create tags on the fly?

Is it possible to create tags on the fly when you modify the image information instead of going to the administration page and then the tag page and then creating a tag and then go to the image and then to modify the information and selecting the tags, it is a lot of trouble especially when you have thousands of tags.

Today you cannot do that... My assumption would be that if you have thousands of tags you would rather catalog your files offline using IPTC keywords and a media management app,. After that you will have to configure pwg to load these IPTC keywords as tags directly...

Re: how can i create tags on the fly?

I repeat what rvelices has just written: we can't do this in current 1.7 and near future 2.0. But a major redesign is planned for 2.1 concerning tag management. We have started to discuss about how it's done on Delicious and FlickR to get inspiration :-) Feel free to give advices :-)

Re: how can i create tags on the fly?

1 - Install LocalFiles Editor (Check the right version).

2 - With LocalFiles Editor in its first tab, code:

// use_iptc: Use IPTC data during database synchronization with files
// metadata
$conf['use_iptc'] = true;

// use_iptc_mapping : in which IPTC fields will PhpWebGallery find image
// information ? This setting is used during metadata synchronisation. It
// associates a phpwebgallery_images column name to a IPTC key
$conf['use_iptc_mapping'] = array(
'keywords'        => '2#025',
  );

3 - Know don't forget to synchronize (once more with phpWebGallery 1.7.x, included with Piwigo 2.0.x) with metadata.

Enjoy !

For those of us who do not have, and/or do not want LocalFiles Editor, what file are these variables located in?

Re: how can i create tags on the fly?

Thanks, yes it worked ones.
After adding new pictures with new IPTC keywords  to a new category I synchronised at:

synchronize files metadata with database elements informations   synchronize metadata (filesize, width, height, high_filesize, date_creation, keywords)

    * even already synchronized elements
    * overrides existing values with empty ones

But the new tags did not show up.

Any idea what I should change?

Re: how can i create tags on the fly?

Did you set them in your pictures?

Could we have one IPTC tagged picture url?
Just to find the IPTC Keywords and make our own test.

Re: how can i create tags on the fly?

The link to one of the pictures is:
http://www.bilderlager.ch/fideco/pictur … category/7

The keywords should be: fideco; meeresfruechte; roscoff

When you download the file via FTP, the preview and the highres and open them in Photoshop you will find the keywords if you look under fileinformation.

I uploaded the file with ploader on a windows xp.

Thanks Daniel

Re: how can i create tags on the fly?

No keyword synchronisation.

One hint coud be, that the files are not in the folder galleries. They are placed in the folder upload, 2009, 10, 07 and than the previews are listed with index htm, folder pwg_high, folder thumbnail.
Yesterday when I imported oder synchronised the first tags, the pictures where placed in the folder gallery because I was using FTP upload...
May that helps.
