FluxBB and punBB

since FlyxBB and punBB have the same core as well as extensions all still come from punBB, am I able to use the FluxBB integration for my punBB board?

I'm not sure to understand what you mean. But for your information fluxbb is a fork of punbb. They share some core code but the way they evolved are separated. I'm not sure extensions are compatible.

Re: FluxBB and punBB

Thank you, I will try the integration and see if it works. It's worth testing it.

Re: FluxBB and punBB

Hi mediapuck,

In addition of Nicolas's answer and because i'm the developer of Register_FluxBB plugin, i've to clarify that Register_FluxBB is available for PunBB and FluxBB forum only for version 1.2.x.

Since PunBB 1.3 release, many code changes have taken place so I'm not sure the plugin can bridge this to Piwigo. If you're using this forum version, you can try the plugin anyway but without warranty. Your feedback could be interesting for other users to know ;-)

Note: At beginning of PunBB/FluxBB fork, i've decided to support and use FluxBB instead of PunBB. There will be no changes to Register_PunBB plugin. At the release of the next 1.4 version of FluxBB, Register_FluxBB will then be compatible only with this forum.

Re: FluxBB and punBB

Tried it - and no, it did not work.

In the meantime I already upgraded to 2.1 version anyway and consider now to install FluxBB, but am not so sure that this is a real desirable forum because their development is rather slow since quite a while. I kept checking back for their RC version, but still nothing halfway decent stable anyway.

I just wonder if it would not be worth pursuing another bridge development for example pressBB is clean and fast and would also suit all the WP users too.

If FluxBB does not keep up with their development, it may not work very well with the Piwigo 2.1 version. The plugin Piwigo has to integrate the forum is for version 2.09. Am not sure if it works with 2.1

I'll check it out and will probably just go with FluxBB for now since it is the only bridge existing for Piwigo.

Yes, I understand your concern. On piwigo.org we have chosen punBB many years ago, when it was still a very active project. Unfortunately, the project was owned (copyrighted) by a single person and was bought by a company. The original creator then left the project and other team members created a fork "fluxBB". but fluxBB is moving very slowly :-/

If I had to make a choice today, I would look at phpBB, vanillaforum or bbpress.

Piwigo 2.1 available on Piwigo.com. Last blog post: Piwigo 2.1.2 fixes many bugs… (June 30th, 2010)

Re: FluxBB and punBB

Thank you for all the information. I will go with bbpress. Like it, slim and has good support too.

Re: FluxBB and punBB

Well, FluxBB 1.4.1 is released by now and FluxBB seems to be moving much faster than PunBB now, where development (even on extensions, which was the only thing they were working on lately) seems to have come to a halt.
