[resolved] Installation failure, lacking php services

I acquired a brand new website on a 3rd party host server (Linux, Apache 2.2), and am accessing it remotely from my home computer (Win-7, IE-9).

On a first quick attempt, I was unable to get the Piwigo 2.2.3 auto-installer, or the manual method, to work.  Upon examination, there don't seem to be any php-related scripts or files in my home directories, as supplied by the host provider.

I unpacked and manually installed all Piwigo files in a directory called "Photos", gave r-w-x to all dirs/files, set cookies "on", created a database, and browsed into it, but nothing happened except:  "page requested unavailable", which could mean many things.

My host claims their service is PHP 5.3.6 and MySQL 5.1 capable, but they seem to be missing.

Can you advise precisely what PHP/MySQL directories, files, and scripts you require and where they should be placed to allow your installer to work?  Only if I know exactly what your installer needs, can I then ask my host to provide it,  or else go hunting on the net for them myself.

thanks.... (Looks like a great product, so I want to stick with it!)

Re: [resolved] Installation failure, lacking php services

It looks like your host is  hostpapa.com*.  They do have a control panel. If it's like mine (cPanel), once you're in, scroll down to "databases".  But I don't think you really should need to do that with the Piwigo installer, you just need the right connections for php.

Here is a link to their control panel sql help:

Re: [resolved] Installation failure, lacking php services

Thanks for reply.  Gee, if you don't have any special php package in your home dir, then maybe I have another problem??

Did you have to tweak your Piwigo uploaded files/scripts before it would install?

Hope I'm not biting off more than I can chew here (gulp!)

Oh, and it's really not hard, it's not rocket science.  It might seem like that at first, but it isn't, really.  Don't be afraid, my child....

Re: [resolved] Installation failure, lacking php services

Sorry, I'm a little overwhelmed....only been at this for a day or so.

They said, "Please make sure you have added the database user to the database.  (Did that) You must select the user and the database from the drop-down lists and then click on the "Add User to DB" button. (Did that)  You should see connection code provided if you have done this.  (Still looking, where would that be I wonder?)

Re: [resolved] Installation failure, lacking php services

Okay, did you follow the instructions here ---> http://piwigo.org/basics/installation_netinstall , step by step?
(edited to put a space between the URL and the comma so the link would work)

This might help you set up the database:

There doesn't seem to be anything on that installation page about a URL, space , or comma.  Where do I do that?

*laughing*  No, that was my comment of why I edited my post.  When the comma was right after the URL that I gave you, the link didn't work.  It was counting the comma.  Sorry.

Re: [resolved] Installation failure, lacking php services

Well, I think it's obvious I need to modify some of the Piwigo files that I uploaded to the "Photos" directory to make the browser kick into install mode.  Right now, it sits there like gravy on a biscuit.

You know what I'd do if I were you?

I'd delete all of the files I'd installed.  I'd go to my cPanel and make an SQL database and write down all of the information (host (usually "localhost") username and password (second link I gave you).

Then I'd do the netinstall of Piwigo (first link I gave you), just need to fill in the blanks as they come up. Seriously, that would be easiest.

Re: [resolved] Installation failure, lacking php services

It's hard to tell where it is failing.  The database particulars entry screen Piwigo shows actually comes AFTER my problem.  I'm not even getting their database entry screen before it fails.  Anyway, I can't spend any more time on it tonite.

Thanks for your help!!  I'm sure I'll be bothering you again.....

Cheers,

Hi CanaGuy,

What is the name of the directory? "Photos" or "photos"? I suggest you don't use capital letters.

Once you're sure you have the directory "photos", if bdcweb.ca/photos doesn't show anything, then try bdcweb.ca/photos/install.php directly

Re: [resolved] Installation failure, lacking php services

I think you have 2 problems :
-first never use capital letters
-second, http://bdcweb.ca/Photos send the file php of piwigo !! So I think you have an htaccess on the root on your server : delete it
