I'm sure the first screen when I start the auto upgrade to get version 2.3 is trying to help me take care of my data. :D
So when the first button to push says "Dump Database" it means it in the computer sense: i.e. "Back up database."
But before I pushed the button I wanted to make sure. After all, in plain English, I'm saying "Throw out the database"!
(Maybe change that button to say "Back up current database to local system"? Assuming that's what it is doing.)

Yes, this button will save your database.

Thanks. I figured it had to (:P), but it was too important not to check!

Just bumping this to help others ...
... upgrading to 2.8 is my first upgrade and the "dump database" phrase was confusing me too.

Hello,
Now in 2019, a Piwigo developer is still using confusing language on the screen 'Update to Piwigo 2.10.1', on which there is a button to 'Dump database' (on ../admin.php?page=updates).
In its original meaning, to 'Dump database' means: 'Discard database' or 'Throw away database' or 'Delete database'.
I hope that the Piwigo Team does not mean that.
As the Piwigo Dashboard (web-managment tool) is used internationally by people with many different computer backgrounds, please Piwigo Team, I beg you: use international English, not American slang or French words. Refrain from using 'popular' wording, but use clear, normal (international) English in stead.
Thanking you in advance, I remain,
Yours truly, RGES

Hello !
I too had to ask about the word, since the button was not translated in my own language (French). But it seems to be the correct technical term . https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Database_dump
Even if "save" or "backup" would be more understandable in everyday language.
