A single page on Piwigo gallery can be accessed via multiple urls depending on from where its accessed. There should be an option of inbuilt generation of canonical url for each page to prevent duplicacy. Hoping the future versions of Piwigo will include a canonical url tag as well.

Hi navjotjsingh,
Yes you're right : http://piwigo.org/demo/picture.php?/40/tags/25-dances and http://piwigo.org/demo/picture.php?/40/category/Asia is the same photo, but either in an album or with a tag. If I remember correctly, search engines robots should not go to browse by tag pages, to avoid duplicate content.
A canonical URL would be a good thing!

Awesome. That was the fastest response and bug submission. :D

Is there a workaround until this is included in Piwigo?

Is there really no workaround?

rvelices has added a canonical URL for picture.php in [Subversion] r13048 (see [Bugtracker] ticket 2368)
So what about the album page? is there such a problem also as navjotjsingh says in the bugtracker? How can we have multiple URL on the same album?

there might be the permalink also,
index/category/4
index.php?/category/4
index.php/category/4
if $conf['question_mark_in_urls'] = false and whatever $conf['php_extension_in_urls'] is

in [Subversion] r13062 I have added the canonical URL for index.php, but it's not perfect for the home page and for additional pages.

I'm not sure it is useful because it does not reduce the number of urls ... But we can leave it like that

Is there a way to set
picture.php/123-XY/category/81.XY as canonical adress instead of picture.php/123-XY ?
That would help for search results landing in the right category and not in the middle of hunderts of different pictures
Greetings

not a good idea ...
Picture 123 in category 1, 3 and 11
=> URL: picture.php/123-XY/category/1
=> URL: picture.php/123-XY/category/3
=> URL: picture.php/123-XY/category/11
=> 3 URLs for the same Picture, same Content => Duplicate Content ==>>> BAD
=> the only one Canonical-URL: picture.php/123-XY

Duplicate Content is indeed bad, but is there no way to set the first category that appears as canonical-url?
To use your example:
Picture 123 in category 1, 3 and 11
=> URL: picture.php/123-XY/category/1 => set as canonical
=> URL: picture.php/123-XY/category/3
=> URL: picture.php/123-XY/category/11
=> URL: picture.php/123-XY
Plus I do have only a few pictures that are in multiple categories. I'm even willing to use only 1 category per image if this is what it takes.
