I've just installed piwigo now. It has asked for a database and I have provided one. I have uploaded a number of photos and I don't see them in the GALLERIES directory anywhere. Can you confirm where they get stored please? I don't want to find I am suddenly going to have to buy extra database capacity so I am hoping they aren't stored in the DB itself (that is just for the metadata).

Of course photos aren't stored in the database. You will find them in the "upload" directory.

There are two ways in Piwigo to create albums. Apparently you have created something what is called 'virtual' album and photos are stored in /_data/i/upload/... etc.

'galleries' directory is used when you create physical albums.

If you create a "physical" gallery by uploading via FTP, your original images are stored under the galleries directory. If you upload the files via the admin page or ploader, you're creating a "virtual" gallery and the images are stored under _data/i/. I strongly suggest that you create virtual galleries due to issues with physical galleries.

The database doesn't contain any of the actual images, just information about how the gallery is constructed, keywords, etc.

THANKS! That was the answer I was hoping for.

And there they are ... all organised in the UPLOAD directory.

p.s. not under the "_data" tree structure.

p.p.s. best product of about 6 I tried. Good job you guys/gals!

yup, you're right.. there are only thumbnails :)

Clearly you haven't generated the multiple sized images yet...

Photos are stored under "upload" but the multiple size cache is under "_data/i". You don't need to backup "_data".
