Audio & Video Support

Piwigo team has done great job by improving.
i love the new flash upload option and android app add on.
that was great to see, it put me, smile on my face when i see it.
Great work.

Now it's time to move to next level. Where we can
have audio and video supports in one plugins where
we can upload audio and videos to different sections and
manage them, with ease.
so we can upload audio and videos and also use embedded
url's. in one easy to use plugin. i see some plugins supports
but it's too complicated and mostly doesn't even work.
i have many family videos that i would like to upload and share
them with my users etc.

in music categories i would like to manage my categories like you
would do it on your pc.

also chat room would be great add on too.

any great idea how it's possible.
thanks a lot

+me
I think it is essential for Piwigo to grow and have core multimedia gallery support. I'd like to be able to upload my videos along with the photos to an album, and have Piwigo do the background magic to display a thumbnail, convert format if needed (allow for storage of original file).

I'm not a great coder, but I can help with the HTML and CSS (front end phase)

Please, please, please prioritize this; it will make Piwigo kill the competition. The current plugins (tried them all) are lacking and for instance don't allow to upload through the upload UI, or force you to link to an external site link to vimeo or youtube, and even then do a poor job at it.

Re: Audio & Video Support

i would really like to see simple mp3 audio support as core function.

My idea:

- Upload MP3 Files like images (wordpress uploader)
- Assign thumbnails for the mp3 file (as cover)
- user a audio player which support all important plattforms (like this one : http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/med … io-player/ )

i would really donate something to somebody if there could be a way in this directions.

what do you mean?

Re: Audio & Video Support

i thougt more about my idea handling multimedia files with Piwigo:

Hosting Requirements should be left "as is" - no FFMPEG or some other multimedia encoders should be used

1. In the first step MP3 Handling should be included as core feature.
2. MP3 Files should be uploadable like images and handled like images.
3. It should be possible to add an thumbnail or cover image for MP3 files
4. We should choose a really "wide range" audio player - i think something like in the above post would be the best
5. we should NOT use a flash based player anymore (or only at fallback!)
6. this player (http://mediaelementjs.com) would fit perfectly (including flash and silverlight fallback already included)
7. there should of course be the option to download the file if allowed (permissions like images)

Look at this:

"What does this get me over other HTML5 players?
Most HTML5 players offer one player to modern browsers and then a competely separate Flash player to older browser. This creates an inconsistent look and functionality.

Instead, MediaElement.js upgrades older browsers, using Flash to mimic the entire HTML5 Media API. Then once all the browsers have something that looks like HTML5 Media, we build a consistent player on top using just HTML and CSS."

How much should i donate - if i want to have 1-7 included as core feature?

FIRST STEP COMPLETED

...please let us discuss about this...

Re: Audio & Video Support

Piwigo is a gallery not a Cms. I can't speack for the whole team, but I'm pretty sure this will never include in the core
But you can still hire a freelance for a plugin

Re: Audio & Video Support

thank you for your response.

the problem with the plugins is that there would be several the do "some" out there already, but some are not maintained anymore and so the user does not know which plugin works.... some are outdated already (charlies content).

I really would like to see piwigo handling some audio files too... so if the core team says "no"... then i will really think to hire somebody to implent this.

Is anybody out there who want to have some donation and has the ability to do this?

Re: Audio & Video Support

I agree with TomTom76 as regards video files. I migrated from Gallery 2 just recently based on the Piwigo site claiming to handle video clips.

I was disappointed to find out the core does not handle this very important feature. The plug-ins leaves a lot to be desired.

We need Piwigo to be able to handle videos seamlessly.

Re: Audio & Video Support

I totally agree with the need for Piwigo to handle audio and video in the core or else be left behind by other galleries as users continue to increase their usage and need for solid and supported video solutions.  I really like Piwigo, but personally, I'm already looking at other solutions for this exact reason.

I'd love to see this on the core roadmap.

Re: Audio & Video Support

I don't understand why it is so important to have it in the core and not with plugins....

Re: Audio & Video Support

What's wrong with the video embed plugin? Upload your videos to Youtube in whatever format you want, copy and paste the link into your gallery.. DONE!

I've found this works very well, and bonus that you're not using diskspace on your host..

Re: Audio & Video Support

For a complete video support you can use piwigo-videojs.
http://piwigo.org/ext/extension_view.php?eid=610

I also migrated from Gallery 2, that is why I implemented this plugin.

Not using FFMPEG is almost impossible as there is no PHP library to handle correctly video file.
I used VideoJS player because it is the only Open Source Video Player.

There is another plugin that handle video and music via flash.
