I am hosting piwigo on my own CentOS6 Server. It is a vm installation and the server is working like a charm.
After successfully installing piwigo everything worked really well, but I didn't want my virtual machine file to grow in size larger than 50GB so I decided to move the upload folder to my 1TB USB drive mounted in /media.
After reading several topics on this forum I decided to use a symlink (upload) to that folder on the USB drive piwigo/upload.
I created the symlink with ssh and it seems to work properly. When I dubbleclick on the symlink it brings me directly to the /media/usbdrive/piwigo/upload/2014
But when I want to add one or several photos I get the following error:
[prepare_directory] cannot create directory "
This is in my opinion a permission issue. These are the permissions of the folder sequence:
/media 777
/usbdrive 700
/piwigo 700
/upload 700
/2014 700
/25 (today folder) is the one that cannot be created I assume
I have tried with FileZilla and SFTP port 22 as root user to modify the permission settings but that didn't work unfortunately..
Help is very welcome ;-)

Hello?
As already answered permission is usually 755 for folders and 644 for files
Check for user permission too
We can help but that's not related to piwigo but server permissions
