how to remove manually set album thumbnail representative?

I had manually specified thumbnails for specific albums, but then I got tired of that and would like to go back to the system where piwigo gives a different random thumbnail each time it loads.

I changed ./include/config_local.inc.php:

Code:

$conf['allow_random_representative'] =true; //default is "false"

$conf['representative_cache_on_level'] = true; //remains as in default

$conf['representative_cache_on_subcats'] = false; //default is "true"

But it has no effect. I changed it in config_default.inc.php, but also no effect. I closed and restarted the browser, since it's set to clear the cache then, but that made no difference.

it will randomly choose a thumbnail from among those representing the subalbums, but only when the album contains only sub-albums, and no actual photos at the top level.

Any album, however, which does contain photos at the top level, stays fixed on whichever thumbnail it chose initially. (I know I can change it manually, but that's not what I'm trying to do.)

Also, from the documentation, it says, "For a particular category, just use “Delete representant button” on [Administration » Categories » Manage » Edit a category] screen, the category will become randomly represented." I've tried to find this Delete option under Administration  » Albums  » Manage » Edit album, but I don't see it.  Maybe I'm in the wrong place?

I mark your post as "todo", I'll give you an answer once Piwigo 2.3 is released :-)

(If the 2.3 tasks have blown over a bit, it would still be great to find out what I'm doing wrong. :D )

Re: how to remove manually set album thumbnail representative?

Sorry for the delay :-/

Go to screen [Administration > Albums > Properties > Representative] and move all albums from "fixed representative" to "random representative".

Please confirm it works for you (I've just tested on my Piwigo 2.2 test environment and it worked as expected: a new thumbnail at each refresh).

By the way, the cache we use is internal to Piwigo and not related to your web browser, no need to clear Firefox local data cache.

Re: how to remove manually set album thumbnail representative?

I don't seem to have the "Representative" option under Album > Properties. I have "Public/Private", "Lock", and "Comments".  I don't see the "Representative" option under any of those three either. Bizarre. I'm still on 2.2.

Edited to add: For what it's worth, I have tried to change this under the settings for individual albums, but there's only the option to change the representative photo, not to go to random.

(If this turns out to be another thing where I missed a totally obvious option, I think I'll grow a beard and go start a new life in the South Seas! :D )

This tab is shown only if you have correctly set:

Code:

$conf['allow_random_representative'] = true;

in your local configuration.

Re: how to remove manually set album thumbnail representative?

I actually knew about that.  I'd changed it in include/config_local.inc.php. But I started digging, since that was obviously the problem.

I also have local/config/config.inc.php.  There it was still set to false!  I changed it. But even though some of the thumbnails changed on reload, they didn't all change.

So I went ahead and also changed it in include/config_default.inc.php. Overkill? Or maybe even a dumb thing to do?

Anyway, the thumbnails are changing often enough now to keep me happy! Is there a setting somewhere that stops them from changing during a given browsing session? Obviously, that's a good setting. Just confusing during testing for changes.

Thank you very much for all your help!

Re: how to remove manually set album thumbnail representative?

Hi,

Is there a way (or even hard coded) to modify the delay between random updates?
