Sorry, I'm not an expert. But it seems for me, that some themes (e.g. stripped_responsive) are not able to display all of the system-messages. For example, in stripped_responsive it's not possible to search for the author of an image, although there is a input-field.

The solution I found to display the message "No results for" index.tpl is within the theme to use the following code added

{if empty ($ THUMBNAILS) && empty ($ CATEGORIES)}
<div style = "padding-left: 20px;"> Message </ div>
{/ if}

I hope to help them who have the same problem.
