Best Practice to Minimize CPU usage for multiple image sizes

Hello,

I am new to Piwigo; just downloaded v2.7 for a image gallery project.

With just 2 images uploaded to my ISP (inmotinhosting shared service), they complained that my CPU utilization was excessive due to ImageMagick and that my account may be suspended and recommended that images conversion be done locally before uploading to the server.

If I use pLoader to create the different image sizes (thumb and HD) and then upload to the server, does pLoader create the images on the local computer ?

If I created the other images sizes using other local software, What does the file names or file structure need to be for FTP uploading ?

Essentially, I am looking for the best practice method of creating the different size images locally instead of having the server create them on the fly to minimize CPU usage.

Thanks,

Kim

PS: just after 2 images? strange and alarming

while inmotion is one of the best hosting out there, there are less restrictive places to host your site
bluehost may be easier to live at. G3 always recommended it and G3 engine was much heavier in utilization of the machine recourses. There are others

personally I run my on 1and1 for ages and never had "we kick you out" email :)

I agree with Serge...

Find another host.

I used Dreamhost for the longest time - had ~400k images on my G3 site and they never once complained, even when I would rebuild ALL of the thumnails on the site.

Re: Best Practice to Minimize CPU usage for multiple image sizes

Thanks for the replies and recommendations to look for another provider, appreciate it.  Were you on a share plan with Bluehost or Dreamhost or on a dedicated server plan ?

Also, does any of you know if pLoader performs image conversions on the local computer or the file structures needed for FTP uploading of multiple sizes for one image ?

Thanks,

Kim

Re: Best Practice to Minimize CPU usage for multiple image sizes

we are talking about shared plans
when you have dedicated or VPS (this should be sufficient by far) you would not (should not) ever run into limits (not more than defined by OS)

Re: Best Practice to Minimize CPU usage for multiple image sizes

I was on a shared plan with DH for most of my time running G3.

The only issue I started running into with them was my DB size and performance issues on their DB server.

I ended up paying for VPS on the Database side just to help out the speed of the site.

It wasn't necessary.. just desired for me.

If you sign up for DH, you are welcome to use my referral link :p   (I'm not pushing for the referral, nor do I want to sway you one way or the other for your hosting... but if you are going to sign up.. why not? :)  )

See my post here if you want to disable multiple sizes completely:
