Overall question is: How do I disable multiple sizes? Although it seems that one is able to, this is an all or nothing affair.
Background:
I upload images in exactly the size I want them to be. This vary very little.
I use 480 pixels as my standard maximum height (with some variations sometimes) and 600 pixels as my standard maximum width. I sometimes add a larger version of an image where I would like the intended visitor to look at the bigger image but not crippling the casual browser.
Previously, I was able to this very easily. With pLoader, just tick the box to allow HD or not. It seems after the upgrade to 2.4.0, I have lost this arrangement completely.
I am not sure about other users. To me, this is a serious setback. I can't now go and redo all the fine tuning for all the images I have uploaded over time.
I looked at two possible ways to do this.
1.
I went into
<image> › Edit photo [Properties] where I could set the Properties and Center of interest for the photo. There wasn't an option to do a small and full size image.
2.
Configuration > Options > Photo Sizes
This seems to be a universal setting, which is contrary to the previous setup.
For examples, and to better understand, see the following:
Smaller than normal image:
320*150 : http://gallery.chaos.co.za/picture.php? … ecent_pics
Standard size:
640*480 : http://gallery.chaos.co.za/picture.php? … tegory/116
High image:
750*1700 : http://gallery.chaos.co.za/picture.php? … tegory/113
This image had a standard size smaller image as well the large one. The smaller image is now lost and it seems I am stuck with the one option?

Thanks for the consideration and advice.

if I understand correctly (not sure)
a trick would be to : uncheck all sizes except XXL and set it for exemple to 10000*10000
and only upload the size you want to display

This is what I have done for now as an interim solution. But this still leaves me with the problem with large images for which I would like to display a smaller version.
The way the new sizes work, you do not have the option to upload and set your own sizes per image, ONLY on a global basis.
To explain more:
1. Most of my images are of a standard maximum height and width (640x480) with only 1 version uploaded and available.
2. Some are higher and some are wider, but there is still only one version available.
3. A few (and this is where the problem come) used to be available in a small and big version.
My workflow used to be:
1. Edit image, add IPTC data, resize, save as jpeg.
2. Upload with pLoader.
For 1 and 2, I would select Photo Size > Web sized > Use original & No High definition.
For 3, I would select Photo Size > Use resized original = 640x480 & High definition = Copy of original
With the new version, you are stuck with multiple sizes, or the 1 uploaded size.
