Generic question(s) about moving from Gallery3 to Piwigo 2.8

Hi folks,

hopefully this is the right branch for my questions here in this forum!

Currently I'm running four Gallery3 based web galleries hosted on my own servers.

But, becauses development of Gallery3+ won't be continued I'm looking for a successor which won't die in near future again. In Serguei Dosyukov's blog (http://blog.dragonsoft.us/2014/07/08/ga … migration/) I read about Piwigo which for Serguei himself is most closest to Gallery3.

So I'd like to ask what is/are the best way(s) to switch over from Gallery3 to Piwigo. Please, have a look at http://www.pix-bavaria.com or http://www.br01-br99.de/ (two of four web galleries I'm currently running).

In general, I'd like to to rebuild a layout/design which is most similar to these ones. But, I definitely need an additional responsive design for mobile devices. May be,  I'll totally switch over to repsonsive only and will put the old static one to the garbage. Or will have two layouts/desings, one for desktop/4k/5k device and an for mobile ones.

So my questions are:

- Wha'ts the best way to start with Piwigo and move from Gallery3?

- Which plug-ins do I need to realize a similar layout like my currently used one in Gallery3 for desktop and mobile devices?

- Do I have to write my own CSS / js / html[5] etc. or are the plugins easily configurable out of the box? Please know, I'm no frontend develover and I had to spent a lot of time for changing CSS/Layout/Design in Gallery3. A process I never want to repeat for just a few years of usage ...

Any hints and/or recommendations are very welcome!

Re: Generic question(s) about moving from Gallery3 to Piwigo 2.8

This should probably be in the "How To" forum, but anyway ...

Start with [extension by plg] Menalto2Piwigo. That will help you import your Gallery3 stuff into Piwigo. I used it to merge my two Gallery3 sites into a single Piwigo one. It still involved some post-migration SQL updating and such, but I eventually got everything working. I used Serge's GreyDragon theme with Gallery, so when I followed him to Piwigo I was able to continue to use his theme and keep the same basic look-and-feel.

You'll have to poke around in all the extensions yourself, though, and tweak your new site to get it just right. Good luck!

Hi windracer,

many thanks for your reply and your basic hints!

May be somebody else will have a suggestion related to a RWD plug-in for Piwigo.

Would be nice, really!
