How to prevent filename scrambling/renaming upon upload?

Greetings,

I'm trying to set this up as a photobucket replacement, but the program automatically scrambles my filenames on upload. I'd rather the filenames stay the same. Is there any way to turn this scrambling off? Or an extension that will do the same? I've done searches, but I haven't been able to find anything.

Thanks!

Piwigo version: newest
PHP version: 5.6

Piwigo doesn't scramble my filenames. How are you uploading your photos?

Re: How to prevent filename scrambling/renaming upon upload?

I'm uploading through the web interface.

So for example, the direct link to a file called sporkman.jpg is:

http://mywebsite.com/i.php?/upload/2017 … ec3-th.jpg

Re: How to prevent filename scrambling/renaming upon upload?

Yes I see. The original filename becomes the photo title, and the imported file is given a hashed filename. This is so that unauthorized viewers cannot guess image URLs and view photos that you have made private.

I am wondering why you are so particular about where and how photos are stored. Myself, I keep my library of originals on an external hard drive. I only upload lower resolution jpegs to piwigo for sharing with other people. I let Piwigo manage the organisation of the physical files on the back end, and I use smart albums to control how I want visitors to view them.

Are you using piwigo to catalog your originals? If so, then I don't think that is a smart process.

Re: How to prevent filename scrambling/renaming upon upload?

I don't know what to tell you. I want control over how the files are stored and named. I'm not doing anything particularly fancy with them. I'm not interested in making elaborate photo galleries. If I really wanted to use this software to its fullest, I could possibly see the advantage of letting it manage this kind of stuff.

But I'm just looking for a program that'll let me organize my photos into folders and then provide a direct link to each photo (with a filename that I've chosen) so I can post photos online. I could just add stuff to my server with an FTP program and do it like that, but I wanted something that would let me upload over the web. I don't have FTP programs running on my work computer or friend's computer.

That's all I did with photobucket, and now that that's dead, I wanted some self-hosting solution that would give me the same functionality.

Luckily I did end up finding a different system that did what I wanted. I appreciate everyone who answered my questions, though!

I see. Yeah, Piwigo is gallery software. It is meant to be used for displaying photos. Not just hosting them. Best of luck.

You can FTP upload folders and files under the galleries/ folder and then synchronize, without album virtualization. See documentation on How to Add Pictures ... by FTP.

Running Piwigo at https://erack.net/gallery/

He is specifically looking for web-based uploading. (Mentioned in another post)

Re: How to prevent filename scrambling/renaming upon upload?

I would recommend Owncloud/NextCloud here not Piwigo or other gallery CMS (Zenphoto, WP etc)
