Adding photos causes Piwigo to fail to load

Hi there,

So I have set up Piwigo via Softaculous Installer and I'm now trying to add photos.  I originally tried to add photos via FTP sync.  The photos and galleries were created but when I tried to load the non-admin site I get an animated progress bar and a dot and the rest of the site never loads.  I originally thought maybe this was due to trying to FTP sync the files in but I deleted the gallery and photos and the non-admin site started loading again.  I created a gallery, the site still loads.  I upload photos from the gallery manager in the admin site and try to load the non-admin page.  Same thing.  Progress bar and a blank page.

Every time the images showed like they loaded fine and after poking around I went in to the gallery via the admin page and used the Jump to Album link and the page loaded and showed the pictures.  So with a link directly to the gallery the page will load but the standard landing page(index) will not load at all.  If from the working gallery page I click the home link it does the same thing, animated progress bar and that's it.

This is on a vanilla load of Piwigo, no plugins installed.

Any help would be appreciated.

Piwigo version: 2.9.2
PHP version: 5.6.26
MySQL version: 5.6.38
Piwigo URL: http://photos.eboggs.com

Re: Adding photos causes Piwigo to fail to load

Sorry I don't understand what a homepage means in reference to the piwigo application.

I installed the application and opened http://photos.eboggs.com  a home page opened and showed the gallery title and page banner.  I then added an album and the photos.eboggs.com page still loaded and showed the album on the left.  When I add pictures to that album(or any album I've tried many times) the main page at photos.eboggs.com no longer loads it just freezes showing an animated progress bar.  The album works and has the photos but the main page people would use to browse the albums and start at doesn't.

try and open https://photos.eboggs.com
then try to open https://photos.eboggs.com/index.php?/category/4

That's my problem.

Re: Adding photos causes Piwigo to fail to load

my browser debugger tells me you have an error on your home page:

Code:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function mb_split() in /home/eboggs/public_html/piwigo/include/smarty/libs/plugins/shared.mb_str_replace.php on line 48

try disabling all piwigo plugins.

Re: Adding photos causes Piwigo to fail to load

I disabled all plugins and even went as far as uninstalling every plugin (which were only the faults ones).  With no plugins even installed the issue still occurs with the same screen.

I also tried updating to the newest version.  That didn't fix the issue however.

Re: Adding photos causes Piwigo to fail to load

I found this on another forum about different software but a similar issue.

"Thanks for the response. I ended up finding the root cause of the problem was not with mbstring which was enabled, it was with mbregex, which was disabled by default for some reason. I rebuilt apache/php with mbregex enabled and all is well."

I'm having my webhost rebuild apache with the mbregex option enabled and hopefully that will fix the issue.  Strange that this occurs even though no plugins are even installed..

The problem is solved ; that was a server with a php installation without essential modules
