iPhone Piwigo app crash (iOS 8.3) - since piwigo update ?

Hi !

I don't know if I'm in the right place to post ... I'd just like to share with you my experience with the iOS app that I use since it's born :) I really love this app since it has the feature to browse the gallery in addition to upload pics :)

So here is my problem : on my old iPhone 4S under iOS 8.3, I don't know since when because I don't use it so often, the app crashes at launch. I haven't change anything on this phone for a long time and it worked perfectly before.
The crash : I can see the login screen less that 1 sec, and it crashes to home. If I double-tap the home button to switch between apps, I can see that Piwigo is there, but if I try to get it front, it crashes again. I just can kill it, and if I relaunch it : it's the same story again.

Looking at the store I saw that there was an update so I updated the app to 2.1.7, but it always crashes.
I've tried to completely delete and reinstall the app, but nothing works, always crashes.
I've tried to update my Piwigo gallery from 2.9.1 to 2.9.3 but it's the same.

It seems to be a backward compatibility problem : I'm using the app on my iPad (iOS 10) and it works perfectly. But the app worked fine up for now one this phone and should continue to work under iOS 8 right ? I really don't want to upgrade to 9 ...

I could do some tests if it can help, maybe downgrade piwigo to 2.8 to see if it's better or I don't know what other kind of test ? Just let me know if I can do something. Maybe try to look at some logs on the gallery ?

Best regards and BIG THANKS for all the work done on all these technologies, there is no equivalent to Piwigo in terms of features and simplicity, and it's really great to be able to use it.

Yosh

If your ancient iOS app crashes that's clearly not the fault of Piwigo. You also won't find anything related to the phone's crash in a Piwigo server log. Get over it and upgrade your phone or use a different app.

Oh and you should upgrade your PHP version from 5.5 to 5.6 (currently 5.6.34)

Re: iPhone Piwigo app crash (iOS 8.3) - since piwigo update ?

What an amiable and constructive answer !

This "ancient iOS app" is the official Piwigo app, developed by @plg himself and his team :) And it's a really great app, don't know why would I use another one ...

So I wanted to inform them about this problem, and I though it would be better to do this by posting here instead of writing a bad review on the appstore. But there is no dedicated forum for the app (maybe it could be nice to create one ?) so I wrote in Misc.

"that's clearly not the fault of Piwigo" -> what I want is find a solution, not a responsible or blame anybody.

Regarding my php version, it's managed by my hoster. I gave the information only because it's in the post template and I though it could help. But thank your for the information.

Kind regards.

Sorry, but you didn't line out that it was "The Piwigo for iOS App" that crashes, I thought it was some arbitrary app you use.

Hi YosheE,

The app is compiled with a recent SDK so that it is compatible with recent iPhones.
I am going to try to test the app with iOS 8.3 and a simulator of an iPhone 4s and will let you know.

Re: iPhone Piwigo app crash (iOS 8.3) - since piwigo update ?

Why don't you use at least iOS 8.4.1 ?
You can find it here: http://www.iclarified.com/750/where-to- … files-from

The iPhone 4s simulator running iOS 9 does not crash with Piwigo 2.1.8 Beta. I'm going to download the last release of the iOS 8, i.e. 8.4.1 do make a try.

I can simulate the crash… and indeed the app crashes at launch on iOS 8.x. Sorry for that…
This [Github] Piwigo-Mobile issue #218 will be fixed in the next release.

Re: iPhone Piwigo app crash (iOS 8.3) - since piwigo update ?

Hi
Thank you for your answers ! I'd have been happy to test the beta version, especially that we're not so far (I live in Lyon and go often to Grenoble).
Unfortunately ... I broke my phone yesterday ......... So I will not be able to do the test anymore, I certainly will have a more recent iOS on my next phone. So this problem is kind of solved for me now ><
So I thank you all one more time for your help and all this job done and I'm happy to see so much reactivity to the user's requests from the development team !!

Glad to have brought some value to the app by discovering this bug ! To be continued :)
Best regards

PS :
Why don't you use at least iOS 8.4.1 ?
-> old releases are always downloadable, but I think that Apple don't activate them anymore, so users that want to upgrade are forced to choose the last activated iOS version.

Re: iPhone Piwigo app crash (iOS 8.3) - since piwigo update ?

To my knowledge, you can always activate an old iOS. Of course the system will ask you to update it right after the activation… but you are not obliged to do it as you already know.

I'm sorry to learn that you broke your iPhone yesterday… If you look for an iPhone 6s in good state with new battery, let me know ;-)

Cheers

Out of curiosity, how do you do that, Cryopad? Do you have to jailbreak your device to do that?

Hi Mandell,

That depends on the situation. You can find for example here a good summary of the possibilities.
