Server software update

Hello,

My host's servers will soon be migrated from EasyApache 3 to EasyApache 4 and from MySQL 5.5+ to MariaDB 10.2

PHP versions will still be available as before, as we are using Cloudlinux on all our managed servers.

I've been notified that it will provide better security and performance using the newer software releases available, but also it means that websites might experience different issues related to using too old code paths or software / library versions for which you'll need your developers help.

For example, migrating from MySQL 5.5+ means that strict mode will be enabled by default, so that means you'll need to check with your developer to make sure the values inserted into your databases / tables are valid. Also the password hash format of your MySQL user names needs to be updated (by simply updating your password) from the old pre 4.1 format to the newer format.

Has anyone experienced a similar software update and if so did it require any changes to be made in Piwigo?

Thanks,
John

Piwigo version: Piwigo 2.9.3
PHP version: 5.3.29
MySQL version: 5.5.59-cll

Re: Server software update

MariaDB does not enable strict checking by default. Even so, just edit your .my.cnf

It is always a good thing updating software.

Re: Server software update

Thanks Zentalquabula, I'll wait until system is updated and if problems are experienced I'll contact my host for suggestions about editing the .my.cnf file.

Re: Server software update

Does this mean that piwigo 2.9.3 will work with MariaDB 10.0/10.1/10.2 ?

I am using 10.1.29-MariaDB-6, for debian-linux-gnu (x86_64) using readline 5.2, together with Apache/2.4.29 and PHP 7.2.5-0ubuntu0.18.04.1 (FPM/FastCGI) on Linux 4.15.0-23-generic #25-Ubuntu (Ubuntu 18.04 LTS).

Worked just as fine with Ubuntu 16.04.

Works equally well on macOS: Ver 15.1 Distrib 10.2.14-MariaDB, for osx10.13 (x86_64) using readline 5, together with Apache/2.4.28 (Unix) and PHP 7.2.5 (FPM/FastCGI) on Darwin Kernel Version 17.4.0.
