Piwigo Android - development (re-)started

Greetings,

I am pleased to announce, that a small team of volunteers continued the efforts of Phil Bayfield to have a first beta version of a small Android App for Piwigo. The app is not yet production ready, as some essential features (e. g. caching, to reduce the amount of network traffic) but we'd like to share the current status with the public, in the hope that some of you join the team. Without claiming it to be complete here is a short list of where some helping hand would be good:

- beta testing
- commenting on existing feature requests and bugs and prioritize them
- feature requests
- translation
- coding
- unit testing
- community building
- planning / team- / release-management

What the app CAN do so far is login to your piwigo gallery as registered or guest user, browse your photos and basically upload.

The first official release is planned as version v1.0.0

Rapha

edit: added translation project URL
edit: attach some screenshots as teaser

Hi ramack,

Can you add some screenshots in your first post? (much more impact for viewers ;-)

Re: Piwigo Android - development (re-)started

Unfortunately it crashes and doesn't open for me. I'll submit a report.

@executive:
Thanks for the report. Can you try with the updated version 0.9.2-beta? Your issue is hopefully solved, and I also added email based crash reporting, such that have some interaction in case of problems.

Yes, I'm in. Both as guest and as a user.

It looks really good. Nice work.

I can't view individual images. I assume that's still being worked on.

yes exactly. [Github] Piwigo-Android issue #76. Contribution is welcome!

BTW: a pull request is one of the strongest arguments to influence the appearance of this app :-)

Re: Piwigo Android - development (re-)started

I just noticed that Piwigo-Android has been released with a production version 1.0.0, this is great !
I must say that you did a great job: it works and looks fine.
I was able to see the albums, to create a new one and to upload new photos :-)

However, there is one glitch I was not able to solve:
I use the Community extension, with specific users that are allowed to create albums and upload photos (this works fine).
But when logged with this specific user, the thumbnails of the albums are empty (see screenshot 'albums with user'). When logged with admin or guest, the albums are displayed correctly (see screenshot 'albums with guest').
Please, let me know if I should post this kind of issue in another place.

Thank you
François

Thanks for reporting. Best would be if you create an issue on github with the details, then we can easily track and solve it.

Kind regards and stay tuned!

Re: Piwigo Android - development (re-)started

As I am now on the comupter and not on the phone anymore, I created the [Github] Piwigo-Android issue #169 for this issue. In case you have further comments it would be great to see you there...

On potential (fake) cause would come to my mind: the currently bad download behavior of the app. - It downloads relatively big thumbnails and therefore is quite slow until the photos are shown. Potentially you just did not wait long enough?

Re: Piwigo Android - development (re-)started

Thank you ramack.
It's great you already created the bug. I put some additional information on my configuration.
I checked your download time assumption, and unfortunately the albums are not displayed even after many minutes.
Let me know if you need more details.
Kind regards
