Guest Access

Hello,

I can not figure it out how guest access works.

First in "/config/config.inc.php" I set "$conf['guest_access'] = true;"-
Then I Created a new album with some photos and set the permissions to everyone.

Each time I enter on the login page "Guest" or "guest" or "Gast" or "gast". The access is being refused.

What am I missing here? Any help is really appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Guest Access

Guest access allows a user that's not logged in to view any image that has its access level set to everyone (and who's album has the same in my experience)

There's no need to log in as guest.

Thank you. But then I do not understand what the user "guest" is for?

Thank you for the hint. I set the permissions for an album to "public" and for the photos to "everyone". But how do I use the guest feature so that someone could noch see just the public photos but photos which I would like guest users to see after the guest identifies himself as a guest. I hope I could make myself clear.

What is the user "guest" for?

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you for your answer. I did all tours but none really mentions the guest user access. Or do I have a false idea what a guest user is for in Piwigo?

For me a guest is a guest is a user which identifies himself as such and you can allow him to see/do certain things without the hassle that the guest has to register himself etc.

As an example you can use a guest user to give a demo of your photo web site.

Public is, as the name inherits, what you would to show to everyone without any identification etc.

I hope I could make myself clear. Thank you.

Thank you for your answer but I do not have guest settings page or tab. Or do you mean modify of the automatically configured guest user under Users -> Manage?

But again, what is the guest user for?

Thank you.

Re: Guest Access

The guest user is the account that is used when no one is logged in (everybody). Specifically it has status Guest and no groups assigned and no privacy level assigned (check Admin -> Users -> Manage), so it does not have access to any image or feature that is restricted to a higher status level or any group or privacy level. You do not use it to login.

If you want a user account to be able to access certain images or albums that a guest user (==everybody) can't see then create a new user and assign it status Generic so the logged in user can't change the password and assign the necessary group(s) and/or privacy level needed to access  those specific albums/images.
