pLoader distribution

Tags: [pLoader]

How do we distribute pLoader?

pLoader takes approximately 10MB for each destination architecture, even so only Microsoft Windows is supported, Linux is under preparation and MacOS should also be added. So it may mean at least 3 distinct "pLoader.exe".

Should we add pLoader in the standard package? separate download? As the download link for Piwigo will be on the future homepage, should also pLoader download button be on the homepage?

Re: pLoader distribution

I think that we should not add ploader in standard package...
But we can add a link on main page... (maybe a little bit more discreet than the main link)

Re: pLoader distribution

Today, yes (separate) and yes (button) in all cases.

In few months, we could have to find another solution maybe.
Imagine someone wants to create an IPTC pick up program.

Re: pLoader distribution

So on the homepage, we have a link to latest.zip and another one for pLoader (Windows version). On the download page, pLoader for Linux also available.

Re: pLoader distribution

The current way we distribute pLoader is not good enough. The download link is difficult to find and we can't make the "sub-releases" obvious. pLoader was released as 2.0.0a with Piwigo 2.0.0 and has now reached the 2.0.0c level.

So, we're going to change this : I'm going to create a "pLoader for Windows" extension and another one "pLoader for Linux". Once thos 2 extensions added, we will see what to change on the main presentation pages.

[extension by plg] pLoader for Linux
[extension by plg] pLoader for Windows

Now that pLoader has its own extension pages, it would be smart to remove the direct download from the main website. I propose that instead of direct download links on "downloads" page, we replace them with links to the extension pages.

I've done it while I was releasing Piwigo 2.0.1
