-====== Glossary ======

-**Album** : This term is not used in the PWG documentation, but is included here because it is frequently used in other image gallery systems. In PWG, albums are most closely represented by "categories."
-
-**Category** : A unit consisting of one or more elements used to categorize elements into logical groupings. The administrator determines the association of an element with a category. A category can contain other subcategories. An element can belong to several categories.
-
-**CSS** : description language, used to describe graphic parameters of PhpWebGallery's pages. For example, links color.
-
-**Element** : Since PWG was designed to manage digital images, an element can be considered the logical analogue of an image file. However, PWG is extensible, and can be used to manage other types of physical file formats, such as video and audio. Therefore, a more generic definition of element would include the logical representation of any type of multimedia file, including image, video, and audio formats.
-
-**Gallery** : Each installation of PWG corresponds to a single gallery.
-
-**Mod(ule)** : Modular extensions to PWG designed to extend the functionality of the application. Available mods can be found in the [[http://pwpwebgallery.net/ext|Extension Manager]].
-
-**MySQL** : databases engine, used to store PhpWebGallery, for example categories description.
-
-**PHP** : development language used to design PhpWebGallery's pages.
-
-**Physical association** : After synchronization, each image file is automatically associated with a physical category analogous to the filesystem directory containing the image file.
-
-**Physical category** : A category that is represented by a directory in the filesystem.
-
-**Private categories** : A category that, by default, is inaccessible to other users and groups. The administrator may explicitly specify those users and/or groups who will be provided access privileges.
-
-**PWG** : PhpWebGallery.
-
-**Release** : PhpWebGallery's official version. See more on [[release_and_branchs.]]
-
-**Remote site** : Elements can be accessed and managed from a remote location by PWG. The remote element repository must be accessible via HTTP.
-
-**Synchronization** : The process of validating the relationship between the physical filesystem used by PWG and the database.
-
-**Style sheets** : (see also CSS) : CSS instructions are included in files called "Style Sheets".
-
-**Template** : HTML pages models. PHP read templates files and convert them in pure HTML language. Templates files yet contain HTML code, with supplemental instructions in order to manage loops which repeat some code's blocks.
-
-**Virtual association** : An element can be virtually associated with either a physical or virtual category. In addition, an element can be virtually associated with an unlimited number of categories.
-
-**Virtual category** : A category that is not associated with a directory in the filesystem. Relationships between virtual categories and the elements they contain are maintained within the database. This type of category can be created only through the process of virtual association.
