Re: Contributing On PhpWebGallery Project

Hello,

I'm using PHP Web Gallery version 1.5.2. In past, I have some problems and features missing, so I have extended this gallery from time to time with some nice features - it was 1-2 hours of developing per feature, something like "saturday relaxing". Now, the 1.6.2 is out (I didn't track much the official evolution of the PWG). And I'm now thinking about the upgrade. But upgrade with my features. It would be nice, to incorporate some of them into the core PWG, don't know.... ?

For example (maybe - some of them are exactly in 1.6.2, I didn't check):
- complete support for UTF-8 (only graphing functionality remains)
- EXIF extension - values are translated to their meaning according to EXIF spec (e.g. flash is not "01" or something like that, but "flash: yes, red-eye reduction..., compensation is like - 1/3 EV etc.), extension to better understand EXIF of Canon cameras
- complete czech translation
- a small czech tutorial "how to" (for my friends - I have installed PWG for them)
- workaround for creating thumbnails under the PHP Safe mode
- support for uploading images with their titles (writing photo titles in gallery is in huge amount a little bit annoying, people are doing this in their graphic programs like in ACDSee or Irfan view, so there is a support to understand descript.ion files - for ACDSee and IPTC info - for Irfan in photos)
- substrings in titles, comments etc. beginning with http:// are automatically treated as links
- some others...

all these features are working correctly on my 1.5.2 version (Maple PWG? :-) ). But - as I said, it would be maybe nice to incorporate them into the core development of this nice product. But - I didn't study your official roadmap. It must be of course incorporated according to that.

I'm a Java (J2EE) professional developer/leader, but I'm successfully playing with PHP since 1998. Have no big free time, but sometimes there is a chance to programm something (like a flash - working in spurts :-) ).

Unfortunately, I'm not able to read/write french if it will not be "bonjour", "merci" or "je t'aime"...

Martin

Contact me at "maple at seznam dot cz".

As I wrote - I'm programming in PHP like a flash - once in a half of year. Unfortunately, I didn't recieved any notification about the reaction in this forum, so therefore the delay.

1.7.0 is out (and in demo it looks good), so I must check, what's new, find, what is still missing according to "my own Maple PWG" and then prepare some features to transfer into the PWG core. Hope, it will not be so much effort, because I have my PWG in own CVS repository, so merging is possible.
