english language: image, picture or photo ?

Today we use as language keys (and as english translation) a combination of image, picture and photo. When I look to the English dictionary meaning of each, it appears to me that image is not appropriate (it has a very different meaning than french).
Because we already changed in next version category to album, I propose to use picture as much as possible instead of image/photo.
I prefer picture to photo because photo is just a specialization of picture (picture could also mean movie in "motion picture"). A photograph is "a picture produced by photography".

Any native english speaker could confirm ? Do the others agree with this change ?

English is not my mother language, but I agree, +1 for picture.

Re: english language: image, picture or photo ?

Even worse than "image" you can find the word "element" several times in the administration. I had chosen this word because it was very generic, but it was a mistake.

I'm 100% OK for the change, but for "photo" and not "picture". Piwigo is a photo gallery software. I know it can manage pictures (and even non picture files) but the main job of Piwigo is to manage a photo gallery.

Zaphod has already created [extension by Zaphod] Photos and I think it's what Piwigo needs. We can do the same way as what was done for the "category" to "album" change :

1) replace language keys in core

2) apply [extension by Zaphod] Photos to core with the script that automatically replace language values with those found in the plugin language file

Re: english language: image, picture or photo ?

Hi guys,

Is this post still relevant?
Because recently I saw reappear the term "image" or "picture" instead of the term "photo" ...

:-))
