This is my Photography site I am using the theme stripped. I edited the css and the footer.tpl
will be doing more

Yes, very good!
I would also use an additional page for the homepage, something like http://chrisphotos.piwigo.com : you choose your best photo for the homepage and provide basic information + link to albums on the photo.
