Improving ergonomy on the rating system

The current rating system in Piwigo 2.3 shows the rating score (based on all the ratings for a given photo) and give the opportunity to the visitor to rate or update his rate. The stars only show the rating of the visitor.

Let's see what the Luciano theme does, and I think it's better than what is done by default :

1) the "0 star" is meant to be a "remove my rating" (even if it doesn't work, because Piwigo can't remove a rating)
2) the yellow stars shows the current rating score, with a half star precision
3) the red border stars shows my own rating, ie "4 stars" => it's not very obvious but better than nothing

We could also display 2 lines of stars :

What I think is the most important is the "remove my rating" option and have a visual representation of the rating score.

Another maybe interesting way to show "rating summary" is the Amazon way :

This is a much more visual way to show the "standard variation" we had in Piwigo 2.0.

I think I like most the luciano style if it had a better visual feedback (such as a thicker border for own rate)

The only site I know that allows to retract a rating is dpreview challenges (while open for voting). I won't have a personal use of that, but if someone does, why not ? (the javascript will be pretty cumbersome to write...)
For the visual representation of the rating also checkout dpreview challanges which are finished. It would be nice.

Re: Improving ergonomy on the rating system

sry I've missed that post
I don't feel a special need to change the current system, especially adding a zero vote.
I have check other site and rating system, and they have the zero vote in option
My final thought is the 2 lines style is much easy and faster to understand : maybe the text "( 8 rates)" could be a link, which show in a tool tip the statistics like Amazon
