Hi PLG,
I was just replying to your statement
"bkcorwin, I' tried to switch to GD as graphical library and it works fine. I've switched back to "External ImageMagick" for testing."
What would be the steps to take now? I should activate GD, and then regenerate all sizes in the batch manager?

Check your php ;-)
$conf['enable_i_log'] = true;

I also had the issue where I don't get any thumnails generated. Turns out its because I had changed the theme to my old theme (based on clear). Now that I have changed it to clear or dark it now works fine.

My problem is different, but may still be related, so I am bringing it in here.
After the 2.4 update all may thumbnails show up much slower. Some of them don't display at all. So it is not completely broken, but slowed down to annoying pace. It looks like the system is re-building the thumbnails from the scratch. Thank you for good piece of software nevertheless.

for me it works very well, the server is a bit slow for the first generation of thumbnails but after caching it's all right

You may be right. I am currently going through all my albums, and the system re-builds the thumbnails. They appear normally, with no slowdown at the following visits.
Now I am wondering if I have to go through all my albums photo by photo manually, or if the server eventually re-builds all the thumbnail and re-sized photos by itself?
all will be generated at the first visit, by you or by yout visitors

You can also use the "Generate multiple size images" action in the Batch Manager and build the whole cache.

I have tried the GD fix (through the admin panel) and its still the same. I have tried the PC Uploader and again, same error - just a little red X
Do I HAVE to edit the PHP file
This is the image, I will leave it alone tonight now and hope someone can help me.

I have the same issue, and the GD "workaround" does not fix anything. I added the logging statement, but see no log. When i try to use the batch manager to create all sizes, i get "9 images were not created" when trying one picture. I assume rebuilding cache is not successfull.. Not sure why, perms are good. Help :D

Got this working. Turns out i.php was missing (if that makes sense for the problem). I do have one issue, piwio always says "upgrade is available", which is a lie :)

What is i.php m8??
Yeah mine does that too, its always the same 2 packages, if I update the Looks Like GBo klike it keeps telling me, it resets all my user settings abd then gives me loads of SQL server errors - I ahve to turn it off and back on, then redo my config!
The other is Psli Bing Maps - I ahve downloaded them and FTP's them, but they still do it :/
Its early days yet, we have to expect teething problems. Just glad these guys are so good at sorting everything out so fast :-)

I too experienced this error and the proposes GD fix did not work for me. I noticed the message "i.php: write error" in _data/update/log_error.txt. So I unzipped the 2.4 zip file in my /tmp directory and noticed the i.php file at the highest directory level. I also found that the update process had not written this file to my piwigo installation. So I copied the i.php file into my installation and voila, the thumbnails appeared and everything works fine even with the GD fix removed.
