I'm testing Piwigo 2.4 and have extensive galleries that are encoded with IPTC information. From what I can tell, when you Synchronize Metadata the IPTC Caption is supposed to get copied to the comment field, writer -> author, ObjectName -> name, ObjectName -> name, DateCreated -> date_creation and the keywords are supposed to populate the image Tags.
Looking at the piwigo_images table, I see that the date_creation field is updated, but none of the others are and none of the keywords are being propagated to the tags.
Am I missing something?

Hi geoffschultz,
By default, IPTC fields are not read. Did you configure $conf['use_iptc'] and $conf['use_iptc_mapping']?

Thanks for the answer. I edited config_default.inc.php and set $conf['use_iptc'] = true; and that did the trick.
Just where is any of this documented? This appears to be a wonderful program with lots of functionality, but the documentation appears to be sorely lacking. I used to be a software engineer and I know that writing documentation isn't fun, but it's part of the process.

Though it may not be helpful, my understanding is that the french documentation (native language) is much more thorough than the english language documentation?

Actually yes, you're perfectly right, we have a French contributor that does a great job on French documentation (it's Gotcha).
In the English documentation, we have a page about metadata but obviously it's out of date :-/
