are your albums virtual ? (created through the admin panel)
if so you can create your new album and moves the old ones without any problem

if not (you use FTP synchronisation) unfortunately this is not possible, all links will be broken

unless you take time to manually modify the database, no
but I don't remember how complex it is or which fields to modify

Maybe you should run [extension by plg] Virtualize and manage virtual albums the way you want

How does one create a new virtual album and within this have a link to an existing set of virtual albums please? I do NOT want to move the existing ones, just make an additional  container album for them at a different level in the Hierarchy..
