Some images fail to display, but have no errors if you download them

Hi

I'm new to Piwigo.

Some images fail to display. But the image is not corrupt.

Scenario:
I have a lot of images, ex. 140 images. They are all JPG's and the file size is about 2 - 6  MB.
When uploading the images, i recieve that all the images was successfully uploaded. But when I access the album I notice that a few of them (let's say six of them) are not showing, A !-mark in a triangle are displayed instead of the image. Either thumbnail were created and when clicking on one of the images, no one will be displayed.
But when i try to access one of the images that was not loaded, click on the download link. I'm able to download the image, and when I open the image locally with a JPG-viewer, the image is not damage at all.

If I try to upload that image once again to the album, it fails with the same effect as told.

I have not tried to use the FTP-function and synchronize, if that would solve the problem. The FTP-function has limitations regarding the file name. Therefor the FTP-function is not what I want to use.
Anyway.

I don't think it has to do anything regarding file size, though many of the images that displays fine, are bigger than the failing files.

I don't think it has to do anything regarding the file name either though the other files are showing, and share the same naming convention.

I believe that it might have something to do with the JPG-file itself, because if I create a new album and upload that image to the new album, it also fails. Note that the image will open just perfect if you have the image locally and open it with a regular jpg-viewer.

I used the Piwigo version 2.5.3 earlier and have now upgraded to v2.6, I experienced the same problem with both versions. I don't believe that it is really a Piwigo-issue. I personally think that it is something in the JPG, that make Piwigo in combination with my server that cause the problem.

End of guessing =)

Please help.

What is the URL of your site? Is a bit easier then to determine the problem :)

Re: Some images fail to display, but have no errors if you download them

Technical information:

I'm using a webhosting service from http://one.com

Technical info about my webservice: http://silverlining.se/info

The gallery is published at: http://silverlining.se/gallery
(The album named test shows a reproduction of the problem. I've uploaded two files, one that work and one that doesn't work.) But if you click on the image, you are able to download the image, and you will probably find that the image will display just perfect in a JPG-viewer.

If you want to reproduce the problem, you can downloed the two files (one that is working and one that doesn't) that I used at:

Re: Some images fail to display, but have no errors if you download them

I did take a look and download both images.
The image that is showing is 16:9 (so horizontally orientated, orientation set to top left), the image that isn't showing is 9:16 (so vertically orientated, orientation set to left bottom).
Are the images that fail to load also vertically orientated? Maybe that's the prob somehow.

Flop25
Can't say, I've been reading and googling a lot now =)
What specifik documentation did you have in mind?

Meegja
I think you were on to something here. I checked. You were right. The failing image is vertical.
There were a few images that were failing, and I don't usually take photos that way, so your theory could be the answer =)

I took two more images with my camera, one vertical and one horizontal... The horizontal is displayed fine but the vertical image is failing. So it might be a display setting, because you are able to download the image.

If that is the problem. What is your suggestion, Tilt them before uploading, or is there a setting I can do in the piwigo portal?

Kind Regards

I have tried once again, took some more pictures with my camera, eight pictures totally, three horizontal and five vertical. And what you hinted. All the vertical images are failing to display.

Thanks for leading me to this troubleshoting path =)

Now I need a workflow process how to deal with vertical images.

Re: Some images fail to display, but have no errors if you download them

On my site I also have vertical images and they show without any problem.
The big difference is that my images are a lot smaller, both in dimensions as in size.
Just give it a try to reduce your image size. For example, your test image is 2760x4912.
Try to reduce the size to for example 1236 x 2200 (or smaller) and do upload it then and see if it shows then.
Btw, if you look for a easy tool to reduce images you could give IrfanView a try. I've been using that for many years and it is the best freeware image viewer/resizer around IMHO :) Very easy to to a whole batch of images in 1 go to reduce in size and so on. Info on http://www.irfanview.com ... and no, I am not connected to that site in any way ;)

If you read the doc, you would have seen mentions to graphic libraries and resources consumption
