Piwigo (http://piwigo.org/basics/features) lists one of the features as "meaningful URLs including tag/category/photo names," but out of the box, that's not what kind of URLs are shown.
Is there a an option to turn on for "meaningful URLs"? I saw one discussion on the subject, but not sure it's current and since it's an advertised feature I thought it would be easier to implement than changing config.inc.php. I tried the suggestion of the discussion http://piwigo.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=17268 but didn't work right off so before looking more closely thought I post here.
I suppose I'd like the URL to be site/Piwigo gallery/high level catalog/sub catalog/photo name (or description)
Thanks for any help.
Piwigo 2.6.3 (now realize the importance of putting this in. At first I didn't because it was assumed I'm on a new version, but someone looking at this discussion in the future won't know the version being discussed).
Edit: first paragraph had the wrong page referenced.

Hi MtnBiker,
[Forum, post 120279 by plg in topic 17268] Seo clean url with image name is still relevant for Piwigo 2.6 and it will produce picture/red-fox/category/13-zoo where the photo filename is "red-fox.jpg" and album is "zoo" (but it won't include the whole path of album/sub-album/sub-sub-album...)

OK that may be good enough, but I'll have to try it out to see if it works for me.
The URL seems a bit backwards, why not picture/category/13-zoo/red-fox. What does category mean here and what does it add? I'm assuming 13-zoo is the sub-album and 13 is a sequential number. In other words why not site.com/picture/13-zoo/red-fox?
Thanks for responding and I'll see if I can get it working. I put in:
$conf['question_mark_in_urls'] = false;
$conf['php_extension_in_urls'] = false;
$conf['category_url_style'] = 'id-name';
$conf['picture_url_style'] = 'file';
but apparently problem with one of these and I haven't sorted out how to see if those options are enabled.
1) $conf['question_mark_in_urls'] = false requires that AcceptPathInfo directive is enabled
2) $conf['php_extension_in_urls'] = false requires Options +MultiViews parameter
What I get for a URL is http://knobby.ws/gallery/index/category … d_friends, but the page is all wrong. The top level http://knobby.ws/gallery/ looks OK.
Thanks for your help.

Then http://piwigo.org/basics/features should be edited to remove "meaningful URLs including tag/category/photo names for Search Engine Optimization (SEO)."
I think many would like meaningful URLs. Look, for example, see MarkRH comment at http://blog.dragonsoft.us/2014/07/08/ga … migration/ so it may be worth getting the plugin written. Or even better bake it into Piwigo. But I'm not a developer and don't understand the reasons for the current URL setup.

Is there truly no way for Piwigo to display human-readable URLs (http://sitename/category/subcategory/imagename)? I had decided to migrate from Gallery to Piwigo because Gallery is going into "hibernation", but this is a basic, essential feature that I do not wish to leave behind.
The best I seem to be able to accomplish is a url like this for a category:
https://www.blackgate.net/gallery/index … y/124-2012
That *should* say
https://www.blackgate.net/gallery/Conve … sCon/2012/
And this for an image in that category:
https://www.blackgate.net/gallery/pictu … y/124-2012
That *should* say:
https://www.blackgate.net/gallery/Conve … -01-46.jpg
Am I overlooking a setting somewhere?
