Upgrade, wise thing to do?

Hi there,

Not sure where to post this, but did anyone did an upgrade without any problems?

I just did an upgrade from 2.6.3 to 2.7.0 on my test environment and everything is broken :-(
All plugins are deactivated and lot of them are not 2.7.0 ready it seems.
Also my current theme (BlancMont XL) doesn't work with 2.7.0 ...

Guess I have to wait this out .. or just stick to the 2.6.3 version.

I just wonder how other people are dealing with this and what kind of tips they have to perform an upgrade.

I also do not have an clue if upgraded plugins will still work on 2.6.3?

Thanks,
Matthijs

Re: Upgrade, wise thing to do?

The newsletter about version 2.7 has not even finished to be sent :-)

Before you upgrade, Piwigo must have told you which plugins/themes were not compatible yet with 2.7. No?

There are currently 70 extensions already compatible with version 2.7 and more will be compatible soon.

Re: Upgrade, wise thing to do?

I agree .. it did say "may not be compatible"

Just wondering how other people are dealing with this ... ;-)

PS .. if I activate GuestBook (which should be compatible?) within the Plugins list, I get this error and all plugins seems compatible (but are not, just the markings disappear);

Re: Upgrade, wise thing to do?

Another question;

Am I correct to say that plugins may not be updated within 2.6.3?
I noticed in my 2.7.0 test environment there are plugin updates, but in 2.6.3 there are not.
And they are the same plugins, for example the Contact Form plugin.
This is version 2.6.6 in 2.6.3 and no upgrade available.
But I have version 2.7.0 in the 2.7.0 test environment.
When I do a forced check in 2.6.3 it says: All plugins are up to date.

I just wonder how I should upgrade when plugins do not upgrade?
I guess it just not compatible with older version ??? Witch would be a shame...
Or I am wrong in some way?

Re: Upgrade, wise thing to do?

Which plugins are missing on Piwigo 2.7.0 for you? (theme blancmontXL has been marked as compatible 3 days ago)

Upgrading to 2.7 is not really a matter of "I want it" but "I have to do it". Except for highly critical security failures, we will not release any other 2.6.x.

Re: Upgrade, wise thing to do?

I just check and for all the plugins I use, there are newer (compatible) version available.
But in 2.6.3 they do not upgrade and stick to the old version.

If you say that you should upgrade plugins after upgrading to 2.7.0, then it makes sense.

I still have the issue in the 2.7.0 plugins admin page when activation GuessBook plugin.
But I have this plugin only activated in my 2.7.0 test environment.

In my 2.7.0 test environment I also have these plugins who are not compatible, but I do NOT use them in live environment;

One more question, I deleted the BlancMont XL in my 2.7.0 test environment, but was not able to see it for re-installation. If I click "Add new theme" I do not see it. I do see the Montblanc XL, which looks almost the same. I also wonder why Montblanc XL has an higher version number (Version 2.7.a) where BlancMont XL still has Version 2.6.a?

Still a bit afraid to do the upgrade .. but I guess when I make a good backup (dump database + backup piwigo folder) it should be no problem to restore when things are not satisfied.

Thanks

Re: Upgrade, wise thing to do?

So for I have the following issues, I still have to address before doing a upgrade on the live website;
1) SOLVED, local template issue; Header Manager, now it seems the text in the header is gone. All settings are the same (checked).
2) SOLVED, local template issue; Meta info (show metadata) not working, did install the Exif View plugin. But nothing happens when pressing button on the photo page. How to troubleshoot this, plugin related or theme (template) related?
3) SOLVED, local template issue; Some still issues, layout seems to have changed a bit. Guess I have to dig in the templates and/or CSS.

I also wonder if there any (config) settings changed and/or obsolete?

Re: Upgrade, wise thing to do?

As I modified a lot of templates all the issue where related to new and/or modified templates.

Today did the upgrade on my live environment and all seems OK :-)
