Customise Piwigo or new build?

Hi there

I'm looking to customise my Piwigo website, with the aim of having a finished website within 5 weeks.

I have a list of changes that i wish to make, written as a developer's brief.  I've sent a copy to PigoLabs.com.  I also posted the information on Upworks, hoping to find a Piwigo experienced developer but without luck.  Two who responsed, said it would be easier for them to start from scratch, which is something i'm now reluctantly considering.  However, I love the admin interface of Piwigo, and the fact there's a community out there ready to help if something isn't quite working right.

I'd very much appreciate it if someone might consider looking at my bespoke requirements (attached to this post as a pdf) and let me know:

a) if they think a new build is the way to go or otherwise
b) of any developers who may be interested in doing this work

Cheers, and i hope you're enjoying your Easter break.

Daljit

Thank you erAck.

Re: Customise Piwigo or new build?

It's visible now. The description of the tasks is a bit vague. You'll also have to consider that if you offer a fixed price of $1000 you'll get one or maybe two days of time from a senior professional freelancer, maybe a week from a desperate hipster and maybe two weeks from a youngster. However, someone offering to do this from scratch (I assume that would involve not using Piwigo, or what does from the scratch mean?), for that price within 4 weeks can't be taken serious (my personal take). If it finished at all you'd end up with something that does exactly what was described as tasks and no administration, no theming, no whatsoever good functionality that make up Piwigo. If I misunderstood and from scratch means a new Piwigo plugin and/or theme from scratch then ok, that's probably viable.

Re: Customise Piwigo or new build?

Thanks for sharing your thought erAck.  Scratch, apologies, a colloquialism meaning 'from nothing!

Yes, descriptions are a little vague (i'm not a developer) but have tried to sharpen to create a list of key tasks going forward.

A friend is aiming to create a new theme, based on Bootstrap.  Help from a developer with creating:

a) a two-step upload of images / extracting & prepopulating five fields with metadata, and/or;
b) four predictive search fields

...would be most welcome.

cheers

Re: Customise Piwigo or new build?

when you say search fields, its not the same as photo tags? I organized my gallery so every photo has a lot of tags and now its very easy to search for specific combinations (peu.net)

The other requirements seem to be posible via plugins/extensions. I'm not a coder

Re: Customise Piwigo or new build?

It seems like a lot of the stuff you're asking for (slideshow, Google Maps, search fields, metadata) are already covered by extensions, you just need to pick the combination that works for your requirements.

Changing the upload process is a little trickier and might require a new custom extension (as opposed to a theme).

Again you have to be much more specific because right now it sounds that Piwigo can already do what you need

Re: Customise Piwigo or new build?

Thanks for all the responses.  Yes, i see that most of the functionality i'm trying to introduce already exists.  It just needs moved around a little and adapted to suit my needs.

A friend has stepped in and things have started moving forwards now, to the point i'm beginning to question whether i need the services of a developer!  However, give it a day of two, i'm sure i'll soon run into difficulties again.

Thanks
