MySQL version:

Fatal error: Uncaught --> Smarty: unable to write file /home/malexhe3/public_html/fotogalleri/_data/templates_c/ljbwkp^e105268fbfade1eeac7b261c35f9bb282959dbb7_0.file.index.tpl.php <-- thrown in /home/malexhe3/public_html/fotogalleri/include/smarty/libs/sysplugins/smarty_internal_runtime_writefile.php on line 79
I read similar Smarty error posts on the forum (FabZ had an identical fatal error 2016-10-05 named Smarty error, but with no solution provided !)
and changed permission on folder _data and folder _data/templates_c to 777 but folder ljbwkp^e105268fbfade1eeac7b261c35f9bb282959dbb7_0.file.index.tpl.php which is empty does not allow me to change permissions and I tried to delete it which was not allowed. What action should I take ?
Please help me to get back on track with PIWIGO.
I have now renamed my problem from Internal server error 500 as symptoms have changed.

Hello
you certainly have permission issues on the /templates_c folder, probably a Linux group/user issue
check that, ask to your sys admin, or your hosting provider

Thank you flop25 for your response. I appreciate it. I do not have deep technical knowledge and I know that I needed to be very precise in communicating with the support of my webhotel to get any action done, so far I was able to change permission on folder _data and folder _data/templates_c to 777 but folder ljbwkp^e105268fbfade1eeac7b261c35f9bb282959dbb7_0.file.index.tpl.php which appears to be empty does not allow me to change permissions.
I understand from cpanel that root is owner of this specific folder.
What is the preferred action by support regarding this folder ?
What would be the next steps to get PIWIGO on track again ?

ljbwkp^e105268fbfade1eeac7b261c35f9bb282959dbb7_0.file.index.tpl.php is a file not a folder
All files in template_c are temporary files and can be deleted

I don't know and have no idea how that "webhotel" sets up its webhosting, but user root being the owner of _data/templates_c/ or anything thereunder sounds very odd to me.

ljbwkp^e105268fbfade1eeac7b261c35f9bb282959dbb7_0.file.index.tpl.php was indeed a name of a folder but after your valuable help as I was unable to change permissions or delete it I managed to change it's name to "a" using FileZilla and thereafter my photogallery is working again.
