$template->append('head_elements'

will append the document head.  Is it possible to append the body too?

$template->append('body_elements'

and variations of it don't seem to work.

On a related note, where can I find the documentation for the mirriad of $template elements?  I have searched here and on the broader web and am coming up empty.
