Image folder on a custom path

Hello all.

I would use a custom folder to store the images managed by piwigo.

The use case is : to link piwigo to a custom image folder, my NAS runs Piwigo.

Why : The NAS has his folder structure already decided by me and I would avoid to replicate the photos (many GB)

Target : to use piwigo to manage without import and duplicate the photos in to the piwigo folder structure

This practice is it allowed by Piwigo ?

If so, where I can refer to understand the how to ?

Many Thanks
Urkadurka

Re: Image folder on a custom path

This is usually done by adding symbolic link(s) from the real storage directories to Piwigo's galleries/ directory and then sync the physical folders to the database like they were FTP directories. Unfortunately the docs hosting site is down right now due to the fire in the Strasbourg datacenter, but there's an archived copy at How To Add Pictures ... by FTP. See also the Piwigo internal sync documentation mentioned there and the Take a Tour plugin. Make sure the user the webserver runs as has read permissions in the NAS directories.

Re: Image folder on a custom path

Thanks for the answers, I'm sorry but I don't know so well the Linux or PHP, please could you try to explain me better the how to ?

From different forums symbolic link isn't supported by QNAP NAS, this is correct ? Does QNap use different ways ?

Thanks

Re: Image folder on a custom path

It would be nice if a few key folders were configurable, but realized immediately that I needed to create symlinks for the 3 folders: _data, galleries, and upload. This was because the disk I keep my app configuration is separate from my media disk(s).

They are supported on QNAP, which was branched from Ubuntu. You may have to SSH into the system to create them, and if you are using a docker container it gets even more complicated. I would only attempt to do so if there is an extremely good reason why and you know what you're doing.

Re: Image folder on a custom path

For a general example see [Forum, post 180408 by erAck in topic 31168] Can an Album contain a hotlink to an external dir ?

That assumes you have command line access via SSH or by other means.

Re: Image folder on a custom path

How did you install Piwigo on the QNAP? Are you using a docker container?

Re: Image folder on a custom path

Hello,
I'm using the webserver, sqlserver MariaDb 5.5.7 offered by QNAP as already available servers.
On Web Server I defined the folder where is the Pwigo application and then using MariaDB and PhpMyAdmin I defined the database.
The next steps are the ones described in to the manual install procedure.

Please, how do you mean about docker container ?

Thanks in advance
Best Regards
