Upgrade to 13 failed - syntax error - cannot access site

Hi,
I have one primary domain running Piwigo and three sub domains, two of which are running Piwigo. Both my primary domain and one of the sub domains upgraded automatically to Piwigo 13 - no problem. The other sub domain running Piwigo (abookofstones.com) failed to upgrade. I got the message that it was running PHP version 5.1 and I needed to upgrade to 7.0. However, when I checked in cPanel, the sub domain is running 7.0. In any case, I upgraded it to 7.4 and now all of my domains are running PHP 7.4.

I then tried to get Softalicious to upgrade abookofstones.com to Piwigo 13 and somehow this has caused a problem that prevents the domain from loading. This is the message that appears when you try to run the domain: "Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '?', expecting ',' or ';' in /home/janbec5/public_html/abookofstones.com/piwigo/include/smarty/libs/Smarty.class.php on line 163". I actually tried to correct the syntax in cPanel file manager but then a different syntax error appears in line 163.

What is even more strange is that I checked that same line in my other sub domain running Piwigo (thebookofparis.com) and the line is identical to line 163 in abookofstones.com. That domain loads just fine with the upgrade to Piwigo 13.

Hope there is an easy fix. Thanks for your help!

Re: Upgrade to 13 failed - syntax error - cannot access site

My site (abookofstones.com) is accessible again and running under Piwigo 13. Wish I could say that the fix was because of my extensive tech expertise, but in really my hosting service (Web Hosting Hub) did the fix. Itʻs a great hosting service - highly recommended. The fix involved changing my PHP to 7.3 from 7.4. Apparently, there were major changes to PHP in 7.4 and Piwigo may not be up to speed with all of them.

Hope this helps some other folks.

Running Piwigo with PHP 7.4 is perfectly fine. It must had been something in conjunction with your or your hosting provider's specific configuration, or how the upgrade from PHP 5.1/7.0 to 7.4 was done.
Anyway, good you had that sorted out.
