Hi.
New to piwigo so please be gentle!
I have some issues setting the creation date on images I have uploaded. I am using creation date as the date each photo was taken. Most of my images are historical and using the pop out calendar is painful when selecting a date in the past. It seems I can't just type 01/01/1965 for example. Is there a way to disable the pop up calendar?
An even better solution would be to bulk update the image details from a csv file! I have not looking into the backend db yet but I guess this would be the best route?
Any help greatly appreciated!
Thanks.
Alex

Hi ! Thanks ddtddt.
Personnally, for mass update, I already have this plugin, very useful. But it does not change the way to choose a date.

Well ... are you sure about date modification with this plugin ? I see it can mass-update only : title, description, author, tags. Not dates.

no Creation Date but it's possible to add in this plugin

Don't worry for me about that, ddtddt. Ask Alex. I find the mod too complicated to use. I still prefer the inconvenient use of the calendar to enter dates.
Thanks all the same for the suggestion.

Why don't you set the correct/preferred date with exiftool before uploading?

Thanks everyone for the quick replies and suggestions.
@gueba - I had thought about setting the dates in the file properties so I may try that. If i upload a file with date info set, how/where do i go to pull the date info into Piwigo? It doesn't seem to pull through based on my basic testing just now. Is there a plugin or option i'm missing? It would also be helpful to pull the author, subject and tag/keyword info from the file if this is also possible?
I have around 60k photos I am looking to pull in so I need a streamlined way to import and get the info showing correctly in Piwigo. I currently have a folder of photos, each with a unique ID, and a spreadsheet listing the date taken, subject and tags/keywords.

Hi alexlush,
As for the date: AFAIK piwigo uses the Exif field: DateTimeOriginal to set the date and time of the pic.
see: exiftool.org
f.e. you can set all dates in a picure or directory on commandline with
exiftool -AllDates="1917:12:12 06:00:00" FILEorDIR
In Windows you can use exiftoogui or Jexiftoogui (all OS - Java needed).
For author, tags, description .... you should be able tu use IPTC fields. I don't use them, so am not familiar with it.

With exiftool don't forget the -preserve option to keep the file date+time and the -overwrite_original_in_place option to not end up with _original backup duplicates of each image file.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I think my best strategy is to use ExifTool to place the correct meta data into the files then get PiWigo to pull that info out.
I'm having some issues getting the metadata to show in the PiWigo but i will create a new post for this as I've strayed away from the original request about the Creation Data field!

dear all,
I have many historical photos in which the month, day and hour are not only unknown, but they are mostly irrelevant. I am interested, though, to define the (probable) creation year of the photograph in the image characteristics, and then use the year to sort.
So great grandfather in 1892 is shown before grandmother in 1930, in my family album.
Is there a way I can have the 'creation date' define a year only? After which I can sort the images in the album by year...
Thanks!
Kiko
