Greetings Piwigers
I'm having an issue updating it though. I have two instances of Piwigo on the same service. One updated fine, the second won't update and says PHP Version 7.1 is required. The installed PHP is version 7.0.33 and the first instance seems to works fine with it.
I see online how to do the PHP update but I also see general recommendations to update to ver 8.0.
I assume Piwigo will work fine with 8.0 and it's best to update to most current version. Is that correct?
thanks / Kozmo

PWG works with PHP 7.0+ but recommended is 8.3 (the latest active supported version).

Got it. Thanks.

There is no recommendation to use PHP 8.3. I'd rather not use 8.3 because it's almost guaranteed that some older unmaintained extension plugins will not work with it. Go for 8.1 (security support until Dec-2025) or 8.2 with selected plugins. PHP 7.x definitely should be avoided.

The requirements at the link you posted indicate 7.4 is the minimum (not 7.0). There is nothing at that link that even hints that 8.x is usable. That page links to the "supported versions" page for PHP, which does NOT include 7.4. As far as PHP itself is concerned, anything before 8.1 is NOT supported.
I don't understand why a better official answer from the Piwigo team is not available for what version(s) of PHP can be used with Piwigo. Piwigo is built on PHP, so it is irresponsible to leave admins in the dark about what versions of PHP are supported by the Piwigo team.

For Piwigo 15, we recommend PHP 8.2 or 8.3.
8.4 hasn't been test enough yet.

Thank you, this helps me a lot right now as I try to figure out my upgrade path - or paths, as it were (not just for Piwigo, running multiple low-activity sites on one VM, but the Piwigo site gets the most traffic by far).
What do you think about changing the Requirements page linked above? If you recommend 8.2 or 8.3, it shouldn't be premature to make 8.something the new minimum?

My gallery is currently running under PHP 8.4.4. I haven't noticed any errors so far. The speed is also OK.
